October Prevention Work Can Start Before the Bill Returns

The prevention network says schools do not need to wait for Bill 208 to use existing vaping-prevention tools this fall.

The toolkit is practical

the AHS CANVAS package supports a whole-school approach to nicotine and vaping, including monthly announcements, interactive activities, signage, student presentations, staff presentations, and parent presentations.

Immediate school actions

  • Pick one to three CANVAS actions.
  • Post clear no-vaping signage.
  • Use classroom conversation tools.
  • Share parent resources.
  • Track what is working before escalating discipline.

Tie prevention to enforcement

Alberta rules and enforcement says minors possessing or consuming a vaping product can face a $100 fine, and the enforcement program inspects retailers and responds to complaints. Prevention and enforcement should be reported together.
