How to refer to us
First reference: Alberta Tobacco Control and Nicotine Prevention Network. Subsequent references: the network. We are an Alberta-based public health network of educators, health professionals, parents, and community organizations. We do not accept funding from tobacco or vaping product manufacturers, importers, or retailers.
Background paragraphs you may quote or paraphrase
On Bill 208: The network supports Bill 208 as a measured public health response. The bill addresses flavour profiles, retail access, and promotional channels that research links to youth appeal. It builds on the existing Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Reduction Act framework.
On prevention and enforcement: Enforcement and prevention should be read together. Inspection coverage, repeat-offender share, and online supervision activity matter. So do youth uptake survey data, school-zone proximity counts, and parent and school staff inquiries. The province publishes some enforcement data; we have asked it to publish prevention measures at the same level of detail.
On adult choice arguments: The network recognises that lawful adults of legal age purchase regulated nicotine products in Alberta. Our position is that adult choice arguments should not be used to block prevention measures that have a youth-protection basis.
What we will not do

- We will not characterise individual lawful retailers, manufacturers, or other coalitions on the record.
- We will not provide medical or legal advice. For clinical questions, we direct reporters to the Canadian Paediatric Society and to provincial public health resources.
What we will do
- Confirm our published positions on the record.
- Point you to primary Alberta and federal sources we cite.
- Offer a short on-the-record statement on request, within our published positions.
