School-Year Prevention Should Follow the Product Source
A prevention-side article arguing that youth-vaping policy should track where products are obtained, not just what products look like.
The prevention priority
Health Canada says youth and people who do not smoke should not vape, and that nicotine can affect concentration, learning, and emotional regulation in youth, according to Consider the Consequences of Vaping. Prevention groups should keep that point front and centre.
The source question
A school-year prevention plan should ask where the product came from before choosing the remedy. A hallway problem may involve peers, online sellers, illegal sellers, careless adults, or licensed retail. Each path needs a different response.
Why enforcement still belongs in prevention
Alberta already has retailer penalties, age and ID rules, and an enforcement team described on Alberta rules and enforcement. Prevention gets stronger when those tools are measured and connected to the actual source of youth access.
