Youth Prevention Needs School-Level Follow Through

The prevention network says the Bill 208 pause should be used to strengthen school-level prevention and reporting.

The school toolkit is ready

The July 2026 AHS toolkit says schools should maintain smoke- and vape-free policies, post required signs, educate students and parents, use restorative practices, and make quit supports available, according to the AHS school toolkit. That is practical prevention work available now.

What should happen this fall

  • Ask school authorities what tools they are using.
  • Track where youth are getting products.
  • Make parent and teacher resources easier to find.
  • Report enforcement and prevention outcomes together.

Why the coalition still wants enforcement clarity

Alberta says its Tobacco and Vaping Enforcement Team coordinates with agencies and responds to public complaints on the provincial rules page. Prevention groups need that enforcement information too, especially if Bill 208 is still deferred.
